Using traditional methods and materials, students will be guided through all the stages of preparation of gesso and bole to the laying and burnishing of gold and silver leaf.
At the end of three days students should have completed 3 projects to take home.
Students are also given the opportunity to experiment with various paint effects and finishes on gesso.
Comprehensive course notes are provided, and also names and addresses of specialist suppliers of gilding equipment and materials.
Numbers are limited to 6 persons per course to allow for individual tuition.
The course starts at 10.00 a.m. each day and continues till 5.00 p.m. A light lunch (not London courses) and refreshments will be provided.
Course Fees
3 day Water and Oil gilding Course : £385.00 per person.
The Course fees include the use of all materials, brushes and tools necessary for the course, 3 small frames and a book of gold. Additional gold leaf may be purchased.
A one day intensive course covering a wide range of restoration techniques to include making composition, taking casts, making moulds, blending, toning etc., i.e. students will be shown how to replace, gild and tone missing sections on ornate picture and mirror frames.
This day usually follows the 3 day gilding course but can be taken separately at a later date.

There are also workshop days when students can work on their own projects under supervision and instruction. These days are individually priced.
Courses are held regularly throughout the year. Currently I am running private courses for small groups from my home in Kent. Individual tuition £685 per person; small group of 2 - 3 students £485 per person. The course fees are full inclusive of all materials and use of necessary tools. Courses can be arranged for mutually convenient dates and other venues can be considered.
